Looking for a personal training course that gets you ready to run a successful fitness business in your area of passion?
We keep the number of participants on each course manageable so we can invest more in you as an individual. We will mentor you and ensure you have a personal trainer tutor coaching you every step of the way.
Our courses offer industry-recognised and Ofqual-certified qualifications. Fitness Garage Academy is an Active IQ approved training centre. Designed and delivered by experienced educators and fitness trainers to equip you to start your own fitness business.
The next Level 3 PT course starts in February 2023.
Is taking the next step to becoming a Personal Trainer overwhelming and you need some clarity and honest answers? Maybe you’re ready to start your own fitness business but not sure which approach to qualifying suits you best? We can support you through the process, starting with an initial phone discussion to determine if our course is correct for you and the business goals you want to achieve.
We know that finding the right course that fits your learning style, timings and budget can be really hard. You may have already found that some fitness courses are taught exclusively online, which clearly limits learning the practical craft of being a PT! Others can’t support you effectively after qualifying in your first year. We pride ourselves on the amount of in-person tuition we offer – at least 10 days face-to-face learning on each PT course. Plus the genuine, practical guidance from our experienced team of personal trainer tutors – who have all been in your shoes.
We pack a lot into the 5 months, ensuring that when you complete your Fitness Garage Academy course, you can make the most of your investment immediately. Every day we all see how big an impact these qualifications can have on our trainers’ day-to-day lives and future opportunities.
Do you have what it takes to be a great personal trainer?
PT is more than just programming your client training sessions. You’ll have individuals to work with. People have ups and downs, have times of stress, they may be juggling family life, going through a divorce or having a tough time at work. Can you manage taking on board people’s emotions and still deliver the best session possible?
Are you someone who gets a buzz from people being motivated and feeling that energy rush exercise brings?! Client energy levels can be variable. They will have niggles and injuries requiring alternative approaches; but you have the potential to really challenge and change people’s lives being a PT. Not every job can offer this!
PTs have a huge range of natural temperaments and personalities – which is great – since so will all your clients! PT is a real people-facing role and they will draw from your energy and positive approach. You’ll be their greatest supporter but often need to be an ‘uncompromising friend’ when they need challenging on their habits, nutrition or thinking.
Waiting for the perfect time to start a PT course might mean it never happens! It might take some organisation and juggling things to attend all the planned course sessions and start structuring your new life. The same levels of commitment will be needed to help your future clients. We know from our successful trainers how thankful they were to make the effort and make it all happen.
Working for yourself can be hugely satisfying but you are also in charge of your diary and job list too! No boss there to chase your session planning, confirming bookings, chasing new enquiries, being responsive to incoming messages and calling enquiries back – is this all for you? There is non-negotiable admin time needed to factor these tasks into your typical week – we certainly see a range of abilities in this area! If you’re organised and proactive, you are already in a great position to make the most of this often underestimated business skill.
You might be content with running all your sessions yourself. Maybe you’re interested in working towards a group fitness offering and a service that requires 2 or more trainers to work effectively? Whatever your dream goal, the Academy team have experience of delivering small group PT, studio classes, running outdoor bootcamps and also managing other trainers. We can support business modelling, pricing, taking payments, keeping records, practising sales techniques and developing your marketing strategy. So you can create your perfect business model to suit you.
Maybe you loved school, maybe you’re glad to have moved on?! Wherever you sit we certainly hope you never feel like learning with us feels like being back at school. Our approach is coaching you through and supporting as closely as you need in all areas. Every learner will have strengths and areas they need more help with. We are happy to share all our past challenges we’ve encountered and mistakes made along the way. We are especially keen to also learn from you too and gain new ideas! Our mantra is; if you’re not making a few mistakes and taking on some manageable risks – you’re never going to move forward.
Typically early starts are part and parcel of the PT life. It’s when a lot of people want to train. However, not everyone will be looking for this and you’ll need to decide how to structure your day. Is daytime work more preferable or do evenings fit your lifestyle best? It’s largely in your control when and how you choose to work and structure your days and weeks. As more people are now working from home, we are certainly seeing more daytime sessions booked in with trainers. Ultimately it’s your routine to create!
We have created an all-in-one learning and training facility with access to dedicated tutors, with real clients and quality PT gym equipment.
You’ll have the support and guidance of a passionate and experienced team of tutors who work in the industry every day.

Andy is Centre Lead for the Fitness Garage Academy. A qualified PT, Andy also has eight years’ teaching experience and also owns a successful local tutoring business.

Ben is committed to incorporating exercise into a sustainable, enduring lifestyle meaning that his clients are as committed to their fitness after five years as they are today.

With a background in science teaching, as well as running her own fitness business, centred around a holistic approach to wellbeing, Caroline is ideally placed to tutor and mentor aspiring PTs.

A former rugby player, Ollie has built a varied client base during more than a decade in the fitness industry through encouraging and supporting his clients to achieve their goals.

Steve is a qualified personal trainer and is also Lead Physical Trainer for Cancer patients at Harrogate District Foundation Trust. Steve also co-owns the Fitness Garage with Andy.
